Provincial Grand Lodge of Mark Master Masons of Middlesex
Middlesex Mark Degree Celebratory Weekender
at The Queens Hotel in Bournemouth
26th to the 28th October 2018
Just two days after this year's very successful AGM was held at the Royal Masonic School for Girls, Rickmansworth, seventy eight members, wives and guests attended a celebratory weekend at the Queens Hotel, Bournemouth.
The weekend started with a chilled drink or two in the bar after what for a lot of guests turned out to be an arduous drive, due to road works and long tail backs. A change and a freshen up and everyone reconvened in the Purbeck Suite for dinner followed by simulated horse racing, which proved to be great fun, finishing with a disco until half past midnight.
Saturday morning started with a hearty breakfast before heading out in the brisk weather conditions, bright sunshine, but a cold fresh wind. After lots of shop visitations, it was back to the nice warm hotel for a light lunch and a relaxing afternoon.
Saturday evening starting with a drinks reception in the bar area, with Photographers at the ready to take couples and groups photos at a very reasonable £ 8.00 per photo. The guests were called into the dining room at 7.00pm and the Provincial Grand Master Eddie Garty and his wife Jo were announced and escorted to the top table. After Grace, an enjoyable pre-ordered meal was served. The convivial evening was enhanced by a pianist who played throughout the meal, which was greatly appreciated by all. After the meal, the Queen was toasted and Eddie gave a short welcome speech, thanking everyone for attending.
We were then treated to a four piece band with a good and varied repertoire of songs. They started with obligatory slow numbers, quickly realising more modern ones suited the room better, resulting in many of the guests dancing the night away. The band finished at 12.30 although there was much appetite for them to play on for longer, especially as the clocks were going back an hour.
Sunday morning saw a few jaded characters sitting down to breakfast and quite a few not making breakfast at all (must have been a good night!...) Everyone said goodbye, lots of hugs and kisses, before the drive home. Everyone considered it a great Saturday night out, the whole weekend being fantastic value for money.
Next year we will be looking at a trip to Brighton for the weekend of the 25th to 27th October, so put the dates in your diary!...
